Zimbabwe Rugby Sevens Trials
Nigel Mudanga of Harare South heads for the try line.

Provisional squads for the U16 and U19 Sevens rugby teams were named at the Spar Schools Interprovincial Sevens Tournament held at St Johns College on Thursday the 2nd of this month. In recent years the U19 Schools select travelled to Kenya for the Safari Sevens Tournament with the Cheetahs but this year the schools sides will travel to Middleburg,South Africa in September together with the Goshawks team. It’s said that, “Victory favours the prepared” thus Zimbabwe Rugby has put together the U16 side as preparation for qualifying for the Nanjing 2014 Junior Olympics. This will be the first time that sevens rugby will be played at the Olympics.

Harare West came first at U16 level after cruising past their counterparts Harare North 17 – 12 in the U16 final. It was another Harare affair in the U19 final with Harare West pitting against Harare North again. This time the tables turned with Harare West managing to score one try in reply to Harare North’s 31 points to put the final score at 31-5.
