Zimbabwe U19 Cricket World Cup Campaign On Track

The Zimbabwe U19 Cricket captain Matthew Bently lead his charges to an incredible win against Papua New Guinea to kick off Zimbabwe’s World Cup campaign in style.

Papua New Guinea won the toss and elected to field first. The crowd at Endeavor Park in Townsville, saw Zimbabwe set a target of 249 runs after 50 overs. Zimbabwean duo, Kevin Kasuza and Luke Masarire set a solid foundation between the stumps to setup a win against the islanders. Kevin Kasuza top scored for the Africans, falling just 3 short of a world cup century. For such a superb performance Kasuza was named player of the match. A pleasant surprise in the last moments of Zimbabwe’s innings came in the form of a six from tail ender Kyle Bowie. Chris Kent was on target for Papua New Guinea claiming five Zimbabwean wickets for 45 runs.

Papua New Guinea found themselves wanting after facing only two balls when opening batsman Vagi Oala was bowled out with zero runs.The on-slaught continued with all Zimbabwean bowlers managing to take at least a wicket. Papua New Guinea was all out at 38.1 overs with 145 runs, 104 runs short of the target. Zimbabwe’s win saw them shoot to the top of Group C with a net run rate of +2.08. The boys continue their campaign on the 14th of August when they meet tournament favourites India at the Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville.
