Zimbabwe Hockey Name Expirienced Side For The Junior Africa Cup of Nations

The Zimbabwe U21 Ladies’ hockey technical team yesterday named a strong side to represent Zimbabwe in the upcoming Junior Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament which will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa will also serve as Africa’s qualifying round for the Junior World Cup scheduled for November 2013 in India.

Zimbabwe will face five other African teams in the one-week tournament that runs from the 13th to the 20th of October. South Africa will be favorites with home advantage. Also in the contest is Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Namibia.

Of the seventeen named to represent Zimbabwe, five players are based in South Africa and one  in Australia. The team leaves for Bulawayo on Saturday the 6th of October en route to Johannesburg where they will be in a week-long camp before the tournament kicks off on the 13th.

Despite struggling to get sponsors the technical team promises to fly Zimbabwe’s flag high. “Thanks to those who have come to our rescue so that we can fly the Zimbabwean flag at  such a prestigious tournament,” said Mr E. Banda who is the head coach for the Zimbabwe U21 Ladies’ hockey.
