St John’s College Harare lost to Pretoria Boys High this afternoon, missing a place in the final at the St John’s College basketball tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In their tournament opener on Thursday, St John’s played against AISJ and won 39-18. The Harare boys went on to play Kingswood College on Friday and humiliated them in their motherland with a score of 70-7.
Round 2 matches commenced on Saturday and it was not the easiest of days on the court for the Zimbabweans but they managed to pull through. Pitted against Western Cape Sport School, St Johns lost 39-64 but went on to win their match against St Charles 43-26 qualifying for the quarter finals. In a tightly contested match against Kearsney College, St Johns managed to register a 43 – 37 win.
It’s been said history repeats itself and it seems to have done that again this afternoon when St John’s College met Pretoria Boys High in the semi-final. Rukudzo Gona who was part of the action when St John’s College played the boys from Pretoria in a rugby encounter 24 -8 in favour of the South Africans in last year’s Learbridge Rugby Challenge, was also part of the action today. St John’s College lost 55-36 to Boys High.
Durban High School emerged champions once again after winning 55-51 in a closely contested final against Pretoria Boys High to mark an end to this year’s edition of the St John’s basketball tournament. The tournament ran from Thursday the 21st of February to Sunday the 24th of February 2013.
