TOP local school rugby teams will renew their rivalry on Friday when they clash in the curtain raiser of the second edition of the Spar International sevens tournament at Harare Sports Club. Whilst school rugby teams get the ball rolling on the 8th of March the main tournament pitting some of Africa’s top rugby teams kicks off on 9 and 10 March.
St Johns College, Hellenic, Prince Edward School, Churchill Boys, Mbare Academy, Vainona High, Eaglesvale and Mabvuku High School will be the schools that will battle for honours as well as invaluable bragging rights on Friday. The schoolboy rugby teams will be using the tournament to gear up for the upcoming Super 8 Schools Rugby and the parallel Co-Educational School Rugby League that get underway at the beginning of the schools second term.
The Prince Edward Tigers, St Johns College Rams and the Bulldogs of Churchill will undoubtedly be the teams to watch for. Trials for Tigers selection are still in motion and this recent training puts P.E on good ground ahead of the tournament. The Rams tour South Africa in March and this is a good platform to work on final combinations for that tour.
The main Spar International sevens tournament will be comprised of 12 teams in the form of Kenya, Zambia, Georgia, Hong Kong, South Africa Academy, Mpumalanga Province, Blue Bulls Academy, Northern Region, Leopards and three teams from Zimbabwe being the Cheetahs , Goshawks and the Zambezi Warriors. It promises to be a great tournament over the three days.
FRONTROW.co.zw will provide all results of the games as they happen on Friday.
