It was once again a game of numbers in Bulawayo over the weekend as Mashonaland Province came out tops at the National Junior Swimming Championships held on the 9th and 10th of March 2013.
Mashonaland fielded the most swimmers followed by Matebeleland. Mashonaland Country districts had the third most number of swimmers while Midlands had the least number of swimmers. The final results at the end of the event reflected these numbers as well.
Donata Katai and Kundai Nyambawaro of Mashonaland were outstanding in the eight and women’s under age group being ranked first and second respectively. Representing Mashonaland Country Districts, Paige Van Der Westhuizen put on a good display to rank first in the women’s 9 age group. In a league of her own Nomvula Mjimba came first in four of her individual event finals (Fly, Breast, Free and Individual Medley) missing out to Olivia Rosenfels of Matebeleland who claimed the top spot in the backstroke event.
Overall Matebeleland managed to organize a well run and successful weekend.
