St George’s College………………..(3)6
Westridge High School……………(0)1
St George’s college first team soccer outclassed Westridge high school in a one sided affair played yesterday afternoon at Hartman Hill.
The hosts were in control of the match right from the first whistle to the final one. Pint sized right Devyn Hencil was full of running, his intelligent link ups with Kuda Bepsiva and David Ross-Stally kept Westridge defence on the back foot. Ross-Stally was simply the toast of the day as his pin point ball distribution in the midfield was immaculate and had the most shots at goal.
Westridge, now coached by former Black Rhinos mentor Dorman Chirova struggled to cope with balls crossed into the 18 area. Instead of attacking the ball their back four were caught ball watching several times and seemed to panic a lot. If it was not for the man between the sticks Juan Bhike who made a couple of saves the score would have been bigger.
Saints drew first blood as early as the fourth minute when Ross-Stally released a thunder bolt which left Bhike for dead.
Chirova’s troops managed to recompose their selves a bit and had a few cracks at goal. But they fell into their slumber again in the last quarter of the first stanza when Bhike was sent the wrong way by Saints’ Bongani Makotore. Ross-Stally ensured a three goal cushion for his team heading to the oranges when he completed his brace with a wonder goal.
In the second period Saints on-slaught continued as super substitute William Karenga fired their fourth goal. Hencil’s hard work was duly rewarded when he was given the honors to convert from the spot after Karenga was bundled in the box. Hencil easily buried the spot kick.
Westridge managed to grab a late consolation goal through Tinashe Chizema. Saints put the cherry on top courtesy of another Karenga goal to cap off a good day on the park.
