A total of 132 players converged at Falcon College for national rugby trials over the weekend. Zimbabwe Schools Rugby has named the final 22 players who will conduct duty at this year’s Under 18 Coca cola Craven Week which takes place in Polokwane, South Africa from 7 July-13 July.
They are six ‘survivors’ from last year’s Craven Week squad: St Georges front rower Thabani Mujeni, Peterhouse flank David Moolman whose likely to captain the side, St John’s trio Rukudzo Gonah , Bart Zwart , Nick Burnett and Peterhouse utility back Brandon Mandivenga.
The major casualties were loose forwards Seb Roch and Sheppard Mhembere who both played in last year’s edition but failed to make the grade this time around.
Harare’s St Georges College has the most number of the players this year with 6 players making the cut. St John’s college and Peterhouse have five players each.
For traditional rugby powerhouse Prince Edward School the stock keeps declining each year and this year only one ‘tiger’ – the elusive prop Tanaka “Gusheshe” Chikwezhero – made the grade.
