With the Southern Africa Youth Championships which had been penciled for 1 and 2 June in Botswana having been postponed a number of Donetsk hopefuls had been left high and dry but the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) had a backup plan.
The Youth Championships were supposed to run concurrently with the Senior Championships but only the latter will take place this weekend. With the hope of getting more athletes to qualify for the World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine NAAZ has included some juniors in the senior team so they can try to get the required times for the global event.
Five athletes have qualified for the event so far and this have been included in the team as well to maintain their form. The five are Michael Songore, Yvonne Vanhuvaone, Nyasha Mutsetse, Ruvarashe Muzinde and Daniel Chidavaenzi.
Men: Michael Songore, Reinhard Ndhlovu, Tom Nigel, Tatenda Matesawana, Obey Banga, Nyasha Mutsetse, Elijah Mabunu, Anesu Muswai, Daniel Chidavaenzi, Trymore Kanzara, Takudzwa Muchichwa, Tapiwa Paradza, Prince Katuka, Anesu Simango, Dumezveni Ndhlovu, Presley Mabhena.
Women: Beatrice Manhla, Tsitsi Mahachi, Yvonne Vanhuvawone, Faith Manhuwa, Sithulisiwe Zhou, Maryjoy Mudyiravanji, Enlitha Ncube, Grace Jimo, Melisa Waramba, Yvonne Thomas, Bridget Sifelani.
