Lomagundi College were at the mercy of Hellenic Academy on Saturday 21 September when they hosted the Harare school for a cricket match in Chinhoyi. Hellenic enjoyed a massive 219 run victory over Gundi.
The visitors took to the crease first and set a massive total of 330 runs for six after 45 overs. Batsman of the moment Kyle Van Leuwen was again in top form for Hellenic, top scoring for his team with 129 runs from 110 balls. Lomagundi started well taking the first wicket with only five runs on the board. The second wicket partnership of Kieran Dunn and Van Leuwen buoyed Hellenic as it added 215 runs for them before M Rambanapasi bowled out Dunn for 75.
The onslaught continued for the hosts but they were in luck as Hellenic found it hard to foster another great partnership. The middle order batsmen did well for the visitors nonetheless but Lomagundi only have themselves to blame for giving away a staggering 47 extras. D Grinham, Lomagundi’s skipper picked up two wickets.
A 330 run chase proved to be a big ask as Lomagundi’s batting line up crumbled earlier on in their innings. All were out after 27 overs. B Charuma top scored for Lomagundi with 34 runs. The only other batsman to reach a double digit score was T Ball who scored 23 not out. J Wright of Hellenic posted figures of 3-29 with the ball.
