Arguably one of the biggest cricket show pieces in Zimbabwe, the St John’s College T20 tournament is upon us. This year’s edition, dubbed the Ram Slam commences this Friday September 27 and runs through to Sunday September 29.
Like last year’s tournament, the Ram Slam is mainly sponsored by Health International and Bon Marche. There is one South African school – Michaelhouse – taking part in this year’s tournament and Hellenic Academy come in as debutants. Other teams taking part are St George’s College, Prince Edward, Churchill, Falcon College, Peterhouse Boys and the hosts, St John’s College – the Rams.
The tournament has been a great success in recent years and this year’s edition should be no different. Rams’ skipper, Jason Murray will be hoping to lead his boys to a successful title defence and make sure the trophy stays in Rolf Valley again this year. St George’s, Prince Edward and Churchill will miss key players who are away on national duty in Visakhapatnam, India. Churchill will be the most affected as they have two players in the national side – Clive Chitumba and Mukululi Nyathi. Prince Edward and St George’s have a player each in India, Luke Jongwe and Jack Myers respectively.
