2013 SSN Player of the Year Awards’ Winners

We asked for your assistance with the identification of the students who have been at the top of their game this past year and you responded. Our team came up with a short-list from your nominations and asked you to help with the voting as well.

Each of the students and teams on the short-list did exceptionally well this year but we had to come up with a winner and you came to our rescue again by being involved in the voting process. After a week of voting we have winners.

In the Girls Team of The Year category, Chisipite’s Hockey 1st XI collected 50% of the votes to emerge winners followed by the Peterhouse Girls 1st XI Hockey squad in second place. The two teams played in this year’s Golden Girls finals with Chisipite taking the cup. In 2012 the same teams made it to the Golden Girls finals but Peterhouse were winners on that occasion.

This year’s Super 8 champions (Peterhouse Boys  1st XV Rugby – 47.4%) claimed the Boys’ Team of The Year Award with the St John’s College 1st XI cricket coming runners up.

In the individuals categories, Natasha Lawson of Hellenic Academy was voted Girls’ Player of The Year while Girls College’s Savannah Stead came second. You can read our interview with Natasha Lawson here. Gary King of St John’s College was voted Boys’ Player of The Year while fellow Johanian, Rukudzo Gona came runner up.
