A feisty Arundel senior volleyball girls team beat Peterhouse Girls 2-1 at Arundel School yesterday(January 24) afternoon. The downpour in Harare forced most of the games scheduled to be cancelled. Of all the sports and fixtures that were scheduled to be played at Arundel School yesterday, the first team volleyball match was the only one that went ahead.
The hosts dominated the first set with precise serves and strong blocks at the net. The Peterhouse Girls team seemed intimidated by the “celebratory cry” that was made by the Arundel girls team every time they won a point. Arundel girls are famous for their singing and chanting during sports fixtures. The visitors fought back to take the second set keeping their hopes of an away win alive.
It was a classic case of “so close yet so far” for the girls from Marondera as Arundel took the third set, to post a well deserved 2-1 victory.
Credit must be given to both teams’ faithful supporters who braved the rain to cheer their teams on.
