Gateway High School girls swimming team edged the Watershed team by a single point to win the gala held at Westridge High School on Saturday(25-January-2014) afternoon. This was the first time Westridge hosted, as well as participated in the swimming gala.
The seven schools that took part in the B Section gala are Eaglesvale Secondary School, Gateway High School, The Heritage School, Watershed College, St John’s High School, Dominican Convent and the hosts, Westridge High School.
Kathy Lobb, head of swimming for Northern Schools, commended Westridge for a job well done. Lobb said she was happy with the development of girls swimming and was extremely happy with Westridge joining the B Section. She encouraged the participation of B teams as she noted that that is where the strength of the A teams comes from.
Lobb who spoke to SSN after the gala, also noted St John’s High School’s improvement in the development of girls swimming. Today’s gala was the first time the Emerald Hill school has “fielded” swimmers for every race at a gala. The school has hired Maxwell Mapanda, a parent at St Johns, to coach the girls.
Meanwhile in the A Section gala that took place at Lomagundi College in Chinhoyi yesterday afternoon, Chisipite A team came first. Peterhouse Girls were in second, Hellenic School was third. Convent A came fourth and the hosts were fifth. The Arundel swimming team came sixth and the Chisipite B team was position seven.
