Hellenic Academy beat St George’s College 6-3 in the Zwart Tourney final to claim the Zwart Trophy on Sunday afternoon at the St John’s College pool. The two day event ran alongside an U15 tournament.
Six teams were in action at St John’s College and these are: St George’s College, Christian Brothers College, Peterhouse Boys, Falcon College, Hellenic Academy and the hosts.
The Zwart Trophy becomes the second trophy that Hellenic Boys Water Polo has won this term. Being one of the youngest schools in Zimbabwe this also becomes only the second national senior title that the school has won. In January they won the Bruce Kennedy Trophy, again at St John’s College.
Hellenic beat hosts in the semi-finals after a penalty shoot-out in similar fashion to how they knocked them into third place, in the Bruce Kennedy tournament. In the second semi-final, St George’s College overcame Falcon College to setup an all-Harare final.
Hellenic Academy boys are proving to be a strong force to be reckoned with. Coming from a co-ed background and managing to beat teams from boys-only schools (who statistically have a larger pool of players to choose from) is no easy task.
Falcon College came out tops in the U15 division, overpowering Peterhouse Boys in the final that was played on Sunday.
