Amber Scott Breaks Two Chisipite Records

Chisipite put in a fine performance to hold off Arundel and Peterhouse Girls to claim the Deloitte Inter-schools meet that took place at Chisipite Senior School yesterday afternoon.

Three schools, Peterhouse Girls and Arundel school as well the hosts took part in the track and field meet. The Arundel team was not at its best as some members of the senior team were at the Harare inter-districts track & field meet that was happening concurrently across town at Eaglesvale Secondary School.

Amber Scott of Peterhouse set a new record in the senior girls javelin, throwing a distance of 31.78 metres. 0.33 metres better than the previous record which had been standing since 2007. Scott also set a new record of 13.83 seconds* in the senior girls 80m hurdles. Arundel’s T, Chikoto also set a new record in high jump for the under 15 division clearing 1.42 metres.

Chisipite’s Mufaro Mazambani added 0.04 metres to the previous under 15 long jump record, setting a new one of 4.33 metres. Chelsea Karimazondo continued on her record breaking path on Friday. Just a week before, she broke the under 17 javelin record at Arundel and she repeated the feat at her school’s meet throwing 25.13 metres knocking off the previous 24.29 record, that’s almost a full metre better.

Arundel’s seniors managed to get back from Eaglesvale in time for the final event at Chisipite – 4x100m relay – and won it comfortably coming home some 12 metres ahead of everyone else. Earlier Arundel’s under 17 4x100m relay team had also cruised to victory in a record time of  53.31 seconds*.

Overall, the hosts came first ahead of Arundel and Peterhouse respectively. A representative from Deloitte – meet sponsors – handed out the awards and trophies to round up proceedings at Chisipite.
