The English Independent Schools XV side is visiting Harare for a four match tour that will culminate in a rugby match against the President’s XV on Friday 11 April. All matches have a 16.00 kick off and will be at Harare Sports Club.
The visitors’ first match will be against Mbare Academy this coming Sunday. When the same team graced our capital two years back, they were involved in an outreach programme that saw them working with the team at Mbare Academy and this year they open their tour against same team they helped build.
On Monday the English play the Harare Lions which is an under 18 select side made up of players from Harare Schools. Their next match will be against Goshawks Under 19 on Wednesday. The Goshawks side will be made up of mainly players from last year’s Craven Week side as well as players from last year’s under 19 side who still meet the age grade. This will go a long way in preparing for the world cup qualifiers in August.
The last match of their visit will be against a President’s side that will be made up of players from the first three matches, so the young lads will not only be playing to win but as a way of putting up their hands for Craven Week and Word Cup qualifiers selection.
This English side’s second visit confirms the suitability of Zimbabwe as a sport tourism destination. SSN will give you all the action from the games for the duration of the tour.
