Falcon College edged Brandwag 21-19 in the last match of the St Dunstan’s College Easter festival in a thrilling encounter yesterday afternoon in Benoni.
With a minute to play within the first half, Falcon conceded a try that saw Brandwag bring the scoreboard upto 12-12 going into the halftime break. It was anyone’s game really.
Two points is all that separated the two teams when the man in charge blew his whistle to end the game that was voted “match of the festival”.
Winning two games on a South African tour, against any opposition, is phenomenal but what makes this tour particularly special for Falcon College is that they pulled a win against Brandwag. Our friends down south of the Limpopo, SA School Sports feature Brandwag in their top hundred rankings.
After the round of games played over the Easter weekend Brandwag is ranked position 46 ahead of teams like Affies, St Stithians, SACS, St John’s College(RSA), Michaelhouse, St Andrews, Pretoria Boys and Kingswood. With just this analysis it’s safe to say that Falcon College will light up the local scene as well this coming season, if they manage to stay injury free that is.
Over at the St John’s College Easter festival, St John’s College(Rams) had their best game so far going over the whitewash a few times to gather 17 points but were still no match to Klein Nederburg who amassed 46 points.
Though the Rams suffered three losses out of a possible three, the tour will give the technical team an idea of where they stand and what they need to work on going forward.
