Peterhouse and Kutama in action at the Hammer & Tongues tourney

Prince Edward put in an exceptional performance in the final at the St  George’s Hammer & Tongues invitational on Saturday winning 3-0 against the hosts to claim the cup.

The boys from Prince Edward enjoyed a perfect run up to the final and topped their day off by drubbing Saints on their home turf as well as scooping four individual awards. In the quarter finals, Prince Edward knocked out Kutama with a 2-0 victory before facing Cornway in the semi-finals. It was a tightly contested encounter but the boys from Josiah Tongogara Avenue posted a 4-2 win over Cornway.

In the other semi-final, St George’s upset Marondera 3-0 to set up an all-Harare final. Cornway and Marondera battled for third place, but it wasn’t exactly a battle as Cornway posted an easy 3-0 victory. The loss to Prince Edward in the final was the first for St Georges at this year’s tourney.

The Hammer & Tongues tournament, only in its second year running, has grown from 16 to 20 teams and attracted more corporate sponsors this year. The tournament has stood out as an all inclusive tournament, featuring private schools, government schools as well mission schools. Falcon College and CBC being the teams that came the farthest to take part in the fiesta.
