Kyle College 1st XV came from behind to claim a great 11-10 victory against St George’s on Weaver Field on Saturday.
Away wins are always sweet but one against a side like St George’s in one of their best years is certainly sweeter. The boys from Masvingo could not hide their excitement as their supporters stormed onto the field at the sounding of the referee’s – Scott McDonnell – final whistle blow. While others celebrated, the St George’s boys walked off Weaver Field, with utter disappointment written all over their bodies.
Daniel Chidavaenzi got the hosts on the scoreboard first with a quick run down the right fringe where the Saints boys filled the bleachers as well as the air with loud chants and songs. That was the first and last time Saints put points on the board before the interval.
Former Saints boy, Campbell Nyakudya slotted two penalties to put Kyle in the lead heading into the half-time break. Saints regrouped and scored another try after the interval but again failed to convert leaving the scores at 10-6.
