Eighth-man Nataizya Chininga went over the try line twice for Zimbabwe U13 as the Old Mutual Young Sables were handed a 12-36 defeat on Monday by Griquas in their first encounter of the 2014 edition of the U13 Coca-Cola Craven Week taking place at Glenwood High School in Durban.
The first of Chininga’s tries came right at the death of first half and Tawanda Muyeye converted as the teams went into the halftime break. The try must have made Griquas realize that the Zimbos were no pushovers going off for the break with just a three-point deficit as the scores stood at 10-7 to the Saffas.
Griquas came back for the second half with resolve, scoring a try in the fourth minute after the break but Chininga was quick to strike back scoring his second try four minutes later. However, Muyeye’s conversion was not true this time and the separation between the two teams was, once again three points as the scores stood at 15-12.
That was the last of Zim’s hope as Griquas made light work of Zimbabwe in the last 13 minutes of the encounter, scoring three more tries which were converted to bring Griquas’s tally up to 36.
Zimbabwe will play Border Country Districts on Tuesday at 8.30am and will be hoping to pick up a win to boost their confidence ahead of the Namibia clash set for later this week.
