We Let Ourselves Down: Bhasera

“We let ourselves down, we didn’t capitalise our chances.” Those were the words of Old Mutual U18 Young Sables captain, Stephen Bhasera in an interview with SSN after their disappointing 26-20 loss against Griquas Country Districts on Wednesday morning.

Coming off the back of a loss on Monday the Old Mutual U18 Young Sables were on a desperate hunt for a win that would act as morale booster ahead of the Namibia clash on Saturday. The boys started well, scoring two tries – Stephen Bhasera and Daniel Nyamugama – off scrums won against the head in the opposition 22m, but both conversions were off the mark leaving Zimbabwe 10-00 up.

Brian Mutanga charged down a clearance by Griquas CD’s fly-half,¬†Coenie Lamprecht, and collected the ball off the bounce to score Zimbabwe’s third try. This time, Snyder struck it well as he had an earlier penalty to extend Zimbabwe’s lead to 20-7.
