Two Mazvita Mtisi goals in the second half of the Silver Girls final, pitting Bulawayo Convent against Hillcrest were enough for the latter to claim the title with a 2-1 win on Sunday.
Hillcrest headed into the break trailing Convent 1-0. Whatever their coach told them at half-time worked as they regrouped well and pulled an equaliser and a winner off the penalty spot.
The umpires, clad in Mark Manolios gear, showed three green cards during the game, two of them to the eventual winners, Hillcrest.
Hillcrest has been in top form throughout the tourney. One could easily say they played in the wrong division of the tournament. The win this year gives them guaranteed entry into next year’s Golden Girls tourney.
The Manicaland girls scored a massive 28 goals in seven games played between Friday and Sunday. Hillcrest showed a lot of potential as a development side, along with Masvingo’s Kyle College. Both teams may be major contenders in the 2015 edition of Golden Girls alongside traditional Harare powerhouses.
