The St John’s College 1st team won the CHISZ soccer tourney that ended on Saturday afternoon at St George’s College. Featuring 13 schools, the tournament ran for two days, with schools in three pools competing for places in the coveted final.
Friday afternoon’s matches included some tight matches such as a Falcon-Peterhouse draw and a few upsets such as Gateway beating St George’s and Falcon beating eventual victor St John’s.
Bitter rivals, St John’s College and St George’s College thus made it to the finals which ended in a stalemate as both teams scored one goal a piece. In a tense penalty shoot out, hosts St George’s missed two penalty kicks, handing the cup to an ecstatic St John’s College team.
Nigel Ndlovu stood out for St John’s College throughout the tournament. Playing in an attacking position Ndlovu scored goals at will; his hard work was rewarded by his being named Player of the Tournament.
