Twenty six senior Hellenic Academy water polo players are this week on a pre-season training tour at the Wahoo Aquatic Centre in Johannesburg.
The Alexandra Park school boys and girls are undertaking a full four day training program which includes land-based warm-up drills, swim sets, skills, game training and lectures on nutrition and water polo skills. Under the guidance of the the Gauteng Age Group Coaches, the students will play games starting after two days of training.
The Hellenic girls won in their first match against a Wahoo Women’s club team 12-6, while the boys lost to the Wahoo men’s club team 15-8 in their opening encounter. There are two further games lined up, one against another Gauteng club side and the final match against South African schools St Dominic’s (girls) and St Benedict’s (boys).
During this August holiday, Hellenic is constructing a new swimming pool complex at the school. This tour was part of their development efforts for their the swim and water polo teams who will be inaugurating the new pool.
