St George’s T20 Underway

The St Georges Smashing Cricket was kicked off this morning with a clash between Hellenic Academy and St Benedict’s College (SA). The match was tipped to be closely contested, as 2013 newcomers Hellenic stunned the South African heavyweights in lasts years’ edition of the tournament.

Hellenic batted first and managed a modest 131 all out in their allotted 20 overs after a positive start, reaching 50 without loss. The dismissal of opener and 2013 batsmen of the tournament, Kyle Van Leeuwen triggered a collapse, as Hellenic slumped to 53/4. Jondy Oldknow and Kieren Dunn stabilised the innings for Hellenic and ensuring they were able to post a competitive total.

St Benedict’s were Swift in their reply and brought up their 100 in the 14th over due to a quick-fire 70 from St Benedict’s opener Grant Cunningham. Requiring less than a run a ball for victory Hellenic ensured the match stayed in the balance taking wickets at regular intervals, but their efforts were in vain as St Benedict’s chased down the score with 3 overs to spare.
