Playing at home, Chisipite Senior School’s waterpolo team shook off a Hellenic threat, winning 5-3 in the final match of the Hippo Trophy Tournament Sunday morning.The U17 team from Chisipite Senior School won all three games during the tournament opening with a massive 16-3 win over Peterhouse on Saturday and a 4-0 victory over visiting side Girls College from Bulawayo.Hellenic Academy presented the toughest opposition for the tournament hosts going down 5-3 on Sunday. Chisipite pupil Hailey Smith who enjoyed an outstanding run throughout the weekend was named Player Of The Tournament.Chisipite finished at the top of the log with six points, while Hellenic and Girls College tied second with four points a piece. Peterhouse Girls anchored the log in fourth place with no points.The Hippo Tournament for Girls and corresponding Accorsi Tournament for Boys this weekend served as selection trials for the Zimbabwe Waterpolo national teams. Many of the student waterpolo players were also competing in national swim finals on Friday and Saturday of the same weekend. Waterpolo is proving an upcoming strong Zimbabwean sport, despite the limited number of schools who compete in it.Although Chisipite’s senior team will be favorites in next weekend’s waterpolo tournament at Falcon College, Hellenic will fancy their chances of spoiling the party for their “big” sisters. Hellenic is currently constructing a new swim and waterpool pool complex at the school and sent their waterpolo teams to South Africa for training and exposure during the August holiday.
