Christian Brothers College put on a great display of teamwork in the relays on Friday at the Boys A Division Swimming Finals. The Bulawayo school came out tops with a massive 473 points, 56 points clear of the closest competitor St George’s College who finished second with 409.
The swimming event which took place at Les Brown was well attended by parents from all schools and officials from the Zimbabwe Aquatics Union. President of Zimbabwe Aquatics Union, Mary Kloppers, graced the event which was hosted by Prince Edward School.
St John’s College had a great showing in the individual races but didn’t do as well in the relays, finishing third with 367 points. Relative newcomers Hellenic Academy came an impressive fourth with 367 points. Peterhouse finished behind them in fifth with 343 points, while hosts Prince Edward amassed 198 points to finish in sixth. Kutama and St Ignatius finished seventh and eighth in the field with 113 and 77 points respectively.
Swim coaches have work lined up for them back in their school pools as the competition was marred by disqualifications due to false starts and wrong arm stoke action. In a few cases, swimmers were also disqualified for finishing with one hand in races where a double handed finish was required.
