Botswana took silver today in women’s football, beating Zimbabwe 5-0 today at Luveve Stadium, and leaving the hosts with the bronze.
The Sithethelelwe Sibanda coached Young Mighty Warriors failed to have a firm hold of the game from the onset. The Botswana Female Zebras coach Sepheko Motlhagoti seemed to have read the Zimbabwean game and drilled holes in them. Chedza Katsibe scored two goals in the first 20 minutes, completely removing Zimbabwe from the game.
Boitumelo Gammu, sent another shot into the Zimbabwean net in the 34th minute, leaving the score 3-0 at the half. The second half started with Zimbabwe showing some resilience. That quickly subsided as Refilwe Thokakele scored for the Zebras in the 59th minute. To add much to the pain the Zimbabwean keeper Themba Ndlovu tipped in a Botswana rebound shot for an own goal after doing well in stopping the initial attack in the 89th minute.
Meanwhile at Barbourfield Stadium, South Africa thumped Namibia in a massive 5-1 win, scoring a total of 17 goals at the Region 5 tournament to convincingly earn gold. Botswana followed with the silver, Zimbabwe the bronze.
