The CBC Sharks lifted the Arthur Gower ‘Trophy for U19 boys’ water polo hosted by Falcon College last weekend. The tournament featured six teams from Harare and Bulawayo.
The Sharks were undefeated in their matches beating St. George’s 6-5 and Hellenic 6-5 in the knock-out phases. They went on to crush the St John’s Rams 7-2 in the semifinal match to win the tournament with a 4-3 victory over Hellenic Academy in the Final. Following victors CBC and second place finishers Hellenic, hosts Falcon took third and St John’s fourth. St George’s and Peterhouse rounded off the fifth and sixth places.
Hosts Falcon showed the development side to their waterpolo by beating St John’s in the final of the U17 Collins Cup played out the same weekend. Although CBC also showed promise in the early stages of the U17 Collins Cup competitions, where they beat Hellenic 5-4 and developing side Prince Edward 11-1, they were then defeated by the St John’s Rams 6-4 and they were trounced by a solid Falcon side 1-11 in the semi-final to come third. St George’s came fourth, Peterhouse 5th. Hellenic finished a disappointing 6th with Prince Edward coming 7th.
The Falcon tournament was a solid preparation for those players who will form the Zimbabwean teams to face South Africa in this weekend’s CANA Tournament at Chisipite. Tournament hosts Falcon are sending 4 players to be part of the Zimbabwe U18 A team and 2 to be part of the B side.
