This weekend saw a riveting Zwart Boy’s Water Polo Cup Tournament hosted by St John’s College in Harare. In a convincing final, Falcon College beat Hellenic Academy 6-2 to claim the trophy, showing that they did not travel all the way from Esigodini in vain.
There were six teams in the Saturday tournament split into two pools: Pool A had Falcon, Hellenic and Peterhouse while Pool B included CBC, St George’s College and hosts St John’s College. St John’s Rams beat CBC in a tense third place match that ended 9-8 at the buzzer. In the earlier pool matches, the Rams had won their pool with victories over Saint George’s 11-6 and CBC 8-6 so entered the semi-final stages a favorite.
This year’s boy’s water polo matches have proved unpredictable, with nearly equal strength among teams. Falcon will be happy to join Bulawayo rivals CBC, who won the Arthur Gower Cup last month, in bringing home silverware from the Harare tournament.
