Zimbabwe’s Junior Golf Association has selected a team of six players to take part in the South African Curro Golf Tournament next month. The SA Juniors International Golf Tour Event will take place March 9-12 at Durbanville Golf Club.
Leading Zimbabwe’s team is Stuart Krog, formerly of St George’s College, who was the number one-seeded junior golfer in Zimbabwe in 2014. Krog is joined by teammates Kieren Vincent, Mbongeni Maphosa, Jack Allard, Justin Kersten and David Amm.
The 54 hole Curro tournament takes place over three days and includes over 150 players from 23 different countries. Such exposure can only serve to develop Zimbabwe’s top junior players.
In addition to the team of six, five other Zimbabwean players will compete in their personal capacity. They are: Tarisiro Fundira, Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa, Tadiwanashe Dzuda, Irvine Nembaware and Danielle Bekker..
Zimbabwean amateur golfers continue to shine in the United States, where several of them are studying under golf scholarships. Sean Crocker has played consistently impressive golf at the University of Southern California where he is studying.
Former St John’s student Scott Vincent recently came sixth in the prestigious Orange Bowl Junior Golf Championships in Miami and is leading his team at Virginia Tech University. He came 16th in the same PGA West Tournament last year.
