Beast Mtawarira Quitting Springboks To Coach Churchill

Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira has announced that he will retire from the Springboks after this year’s Rugby World Cup in London to come home to Zimbabwe to coach Churchill Boys High.

Beast, a well-known and beloved Zimbabwean rugby icon, is arguable one of Zimbabwe’s best rugby exports. Churchill will gain an edge in the local game from his leadership and advice. The Churchill Bulldogs registered some major upsets during last year’s season despite suffering their own.

Mtawarira discovered his rugby talent while a student at Churchill in the 90’s, and later moved on as a recruit to Peterhouse Boys in Marondera before making the move to Sharks Academy in South Africa.

In 2009, Scott Gray came back home from Scotland where he had turned out for the senior man’s side. Gray took up the role of rugby head coach at Peterhouse but has since moved to head rugby at St John’s College in Harare.
