Three Girls Off To Netherlands To Represent Zimbabwe

Three U19 girls depart Zimbabwe today headed for the Netherlands to represent Zimbabwe at the World Squash Federation’s World Junior Squash Championships taking place in Eindhoven.

Zimbabwe’s girls team is made up of Chisipite’s Carley Barton playing number one, Shannon O’Donovan from Peterhouse will play number two and to round-up the team Arundel’s Kuzivakwashe Madungwe playing number three.

Last year the World Juniors took place in Namibia and the 2015 edition was originally set for Cairo in Egypt but the World Squash Federation has since moved the event to Netherlands. The championship in the southern Netherlands city of Eindhoven will consist of men’s and women’s under 19 age individual events followed by the biennial junior women’s team event. The individual events run from the 26th to the 30th of July while the women’s team event will take place from the 31st July to the 4th of August.

Barton competed in last year’s championship where she placed 28 in the world and her experience is expected to encourage the team particularly in the team events.

All of Zimbabwe’s representatives start their world championship campaign on Sunday. O’Donovan will play Switzerland’s Sarah Ludin, Madungwe plays Akanksha Salunkhe of Sri Lanka and Barton plays American Casey Wong in Zimbabwe’s opening matches.
