Zimbabwe’s Junior Rowers In Rio de Janeiro

Zimbabwe has qualified and sent five high school rowers to the World Rowing Junior Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil which start today (5 August 2015).

Kyle Hinde of St John’s College will be representing Zimbabwe in the junior men’s single scull race today in a field of 25 athletes, all representing different countries. Hinde participated in the Youth Olympic Games in 2014 in China. Hinde’s heat will see him race against rowers from Hungary, Croatia, Venezuela and the United States.

Megan Dickens and Jennifer Lorimer of Chisipite Senior School will race together in the double scull women’s race, while Stuart Duncan and Paul Zwanikken of St George’s College will race in the double scull men’s competition, both which take place on Thursday, August 6.

The four-day World Championships, 4-8 August, are a test run of the Lagoa Stadium de Rodrigo on Ipanema Beach where the rowing events of the 2016 Olympics will also take place. Fifty four countries are participating in world’s top junior regatta.
