Danielle Bekker shot a three day combined score of 251, finishing +38 over par in sixth position today (23 August 2015) at the Africa Junior Girls Golf Championships in Kenya. A homeschooled student, 12 year old Daniella used to be a student at Gateway Primary School. Held at Nyali Beach Country Club off of Mombasa on Kenya’s coast, the three day championship saw Zimbabwe competing with teams from Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria and hosts Kenya.
The rest of Team Zimbabwe came in the middle of the pack. Margaret Nyamukondiwa finished in tied ninth place with a score of 271 which was +58 over par for the course. Daniella Banda came 11th with a three day total of 279 which is+66 over par, and Nomatter Chikutwe finished right behind her in 12th place with a score of 292 for a +79 over par three day total.
Hosts Kenya won the tournament team award with 708 total points and individually swept first and second place in the first ever Africa Junior Girls tournament. Naomi Wafula won the tournament convincingly, shooting +16 over par for a three day total of 229 points, while her teammate Kellie Gachaga was seven points behind her with a +23 par finish. Team Zambia came second with a total of 748 points, with Zimbabwe in third with 801 points.
