While eight boys’ teams head to St John’s this weekend with bats for the Ram Slam 2015, eight girls’ teams will head to Chisipite Senior School on Saturday (26 September 2015) with armed with nothing but their boots for the Chisipite U18 1st XI Football Tournament.
Pool A will see hosts Chisipite play against Dominican Convent, Eaglesvale and Mabelreign Girls High. Pool B will pit Gateway against Westridge, Arundel and Hillcrest. Pool games will begin at 8am and the top two teams in each pool will progress to the semi-final rounds and eventually the tournament final. The half day tourney will wrap up before lunch time.
Arundel just might be the dark horse team to beat, coming off of three consecutive wins already this term. Arundel started their third term 1st team football league matches with a game away against rivals Chisipite last week where they nailed two goals by Chenai Chikukwa and Rutendo Matukutire to defeat Chisipite 2-0. Arundel then travelled to Eaglesvale this week to win a 1-0 victory away thanks to another goal by forward Chenai.
Today (23 September) Arundel earned a third consecutive victory, this time at home with a 1-0 win over Westridge from a goal by Esther Mano. Arundel keeper Musfira Moosa has been a strong defensive force for her team, maintaining three clean sheets in her last three matches. Arundel has yet to face Gateway this term, another favorite in the tourney, who beat them earlier this year.
