Christian Brothers College Reclaim Boys’ Top Swimming Trophy

Christian Brothers College’s swim team prevailed at Les Brown Pool in Harare on Friday (2 October 2015), fending off stiff competition from St John’s and St George’s Colleges to reclaim the National A-Division boys gala trophy.

The team from Bulawayo did not have it easy as St John’s kept breathing down their neck and in some instances even took the lead on the team scoreboard during the afternoon meet. While there will always be individual standouts in the sport of swimming, it was the collective effort from the whole team that carried Christian Brothers College through the relay gala. Of the 20 relay races that were swum at Les Brown, Christian Brothers College recorded seven wins and an equal number of second place finishes. When they were not first or second, they finished third which kept their scores ticking away.

Other schools participating in the 2015 Boys A-Division gala were St George’s who claimed bronze, Hellenic in fourth, Peterhouse Boys in fifth, Prince Edward finishing sixth and Kutama College who finished seventh.

Eight teams were supposed to take part in the gala, but debutants Eaglesvale who were promoted to the A-Division after a good showing last season did not pitch up. Their no show means they will be relegated again from the top league going into the next season.
