While some avid runners will be able to make the trip to the Vumba for the Old Mutual Mountain run this weekend, there is another option for those staying behind in Harare. Donnybrook Raceway, the motocross racetrack off of Arcturus Road in Eastern Harare, will be offering a day of runs and walks, both fun and competitive on Saturday, 14 November.
The Donnybrook Challenge has added the Donnybrook Schools Challenge relay category this year, where teams of four students will each run 7km for a total relay distance of 28km. Schools who cover the most kilometers in distance as well as the fastest school relay 4 x 7km teams will receive prizes. Several local high schools are entering teams, a great run-up and training event for the upcoming 2016 cross-country season in January.
Billed as “fun and fitness for the whole family”, the Donnybrook Challenge also includes a parallel Corporate Relay Challege on the 4 x 7km course. In the individual categories, entrants can choose to run or walk 7, 14, 21 or 28km. There are prizes available to the fastest 28km men and women.
Individual runners undertaking 21 or 28km begin at 6am, with the Schools and Corporate Relay Challenges at 630am. Runners and walkers who would like to do a gentler 7 or 14km begin at 730am. All participants will receive t-shirts.
