Zimbabwe junior golfers placed prominently in the just ended (15-18 December) Greg Norman Academy Junior Invitational Golf Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on the Southeast coast of the United States.
One point separated each of Zimbabwe’s three participants, who all finished impressively in the top ten. Homeschooled David Amm finished fifth in the tournament with a three-day point total of 226, with Kieren Vincent of St John’s College finishing seventh with 227 points and Falcon College’s Justin Kersten right behind him in eighth with 228 points.
The Greg Norman Junior Invitational included 36 male junior golfers from 18 different countries. Zimbabwe was the only African country represented in the tournament, which included three rounds of 75 par golf. Ilari Saulo of Finland won with a total score of 218, six points ahead of fifth placed Amm.
The three member team from Zimbabwe took part in this invitational as a warm-up to their participation next weekend in the larger Orange Bowl Invitational in Florida. The tournament, a fixture on the Global Junior Golf circuit, will improve the three Zimbabwean junior golfers rankings. The boys enjoyed the scenic ocean side course which took place at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
