Zimbabwe Aquatics is calling for swimmers with Level 2 times swum this 2015 season to apply to represent Zimbabwe at the Cana 4 Gala to be held in 2016 in Mauritius. The gala will be held at the Serge Alfred Swimming Pool at Beau Bassin in the Plaines Wilhems area of Mauritius. Zimbabwe hopes to send a strong delegation to compete in the sub-Saharan gala and will vet as many swimmers in all races and age categories as qualify.
The African Swimming Confederation (CANA) is divided into four zones. Zimbabwe is one of the fourteen Southern African countries in Zone 4. The annual sub-Saharan gala is intended to raise the standard of swimming in the region. It was first held in Swaziland in 2004. Although the CANA 4 Gala has been held annually since that time, Zimbabwe did not send a delegation in 2014 or 2015 citing financial difficulties. Zimbabwe hosted the CANA Zone 4 Gala in 2007 and is scheduled to host again in 2017.
To qualify for selection to represent Zimbabwe at the CANA Zone 4 gala, swimmers need to achieve Level 2 times in the 2015-16 season before February 22, 2016. This month’s Provincial swimming galas around the country will have helped some student swimmers achieve these needed times.
