As second term sports get under way, boys’ hockey teams from Matabeleland showed a particularly strong showing this past weekend (13-15 May), playing multiple matches each against teams from across the country.
The Petra Raiders scored 14 goals in three matches over the weekend. Petra beat Kyle College 6-1, Mufakose 1 High School 4-0 and Midlands Christian College 4-0. Tapiwa Mhaka was the high scorer for Petra, scoring in all three games, for a total of four goals.
Across town in Bulawayo, Christian Brothers College, who have a younger, developing first team this year, posted four wins, with strong goalkeeping only letting by one goal while they made thirteen on the turf at the hockey stadium. CBC Skulls shut out Goldridge College 4-0, Southeastern College 1-0 and Mufakose High 3-0. They beat Kyle College 5-1 in their final game.
Hailing from Esigodini, Falcon’s 1st XI hockey team posted four wins this past weekend, including three clean sheets. Falcon shut out Kyle College 5-0, Southeastern College 9-0 and Midland Christian College 3-0. They also beat Goldridge College 5-1. Falcon will face Peterhouse in Marondera this upcoming weekend, together with their soccer and rugby teams.
