Gateway School’s girls soccer first team dominated Arundel this afternoon (18 May 2016), in the first league match of this second term season. Sloppy play and missed opportunities cost Arundel dearly, ending in a score of 4-1 to hosts Gateway. Gateway is the team to watch this season, and their concentration on drill work and a more intensive practice schedule is clear in their ball control on the field.
Gateway’s star player Marilyn Munangatire was especially impressive, not only scoring a brace for her team, but also manipulating through multiple defenders to reach the goal. Form 3 player Thembisile Gausi made a penalty to score Arundel’s only goal of the match.
The junior match was a completely different story, with Arundel ending the first half 1-0, but dominating play in the second half for a comfortable 5-0 victory over hosts Gateway. Gausi, who played both junior and senior games for Arundel, scored a hat trick, with teammates Erin van Aswegan and at the last minute of play, Alyssa Makina making the other goals.
