The Churchill Bulldogs who have enjoyed impressive form this season face bitter rivals, Prince Edward Tigers, on Nigel Phillip tomorrow, 25 June 2016.
A win for Churchill tomorrow would not only mean that they continue their now famous unbeaten run, but would also be the first time in recent years that the Eastlea side records three victories against Prince Edward in a single year. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers as the curtain raiser for the Blue Bulls vs Cheetahs clash at the National Sports Stadium. They again scored a victory at the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival in Prince Edward’s own backyard, Jubilee. Can they deliver on Nigel Phillip?
While they had a rough start to their season, Prince Edward has regrouped nicely as the term has progressed and will prove worthy opponents to Churchill on Saturday. The all important question is will the Tigers have enough gas in their tank to hold back the Bulldogs’ fierce attack?
In terms of confidence, both teams will run on the field with their heads up. Nonetheless, form does not count in rival encounters such as this one. As such Churchill’s biggest advantage tomorrow will not be their excellent form this year, but rather playing at home.
One Churchill player has been named in the U18 Old Mutual Young Sables side compared to three players from Prince Edward. This lack of representation from Churchill on the national side is testament to the superior team structure that Jeff Madhake has built that has a broad focus on the team rather than on individual star players.
