In a tightly contested round robin water polo tournament St John’s College lifted the Arthur Gower Trophy . Six of the top water polo playing schools, CBC, Falcon, St John’s, St George’s, Peterhouse and Hellenic, took part in this U20 boys’ round robin tournament held at the City Pool, in Bulawayo.
The competition served as a test run for the up and coming CANA Zone IV Water Polo Championships which will be held at the same venue in the upcoming week. Spectators enjoyed some first class displays of water polo by the country’s top boys’ teams whose spirit and determination meant every game was a real challenge.
The final game of the weekend saw CBC Sharks take on St John’s Rams in a nail-biting match. At half time, the Sharks found themselves 1-3 down, but by the end of the 3rd quarter, they had levelled the scores at 3-3. The Rams played a blistering final quarter to win the game 6-3 and, subsequently, to take the trophy for the historic Arthur Gower tournament.
The final tournament results had Falcon in second place followed by CBC in third, St George’s in fourth, Peterhouse in fifth and Hellenic in sixth.
