Muddy Lomagundi Course Holds Back New Records

Coming as the last race of the brief high school cross-country season, with runners at their peak the Lomagundi meet usually delivers at least one broken record each year.

Expectations were high for two of the girls running, Andie Kuipers of Peterhouse Girls and Gabby de Chassart of Hellenic, who hold Lomagundi cross-country records for the 4.1 km U15 and U17 events.  However, at Friday’s meet, the muddy course from this year’s record-breaking rains meant all races were slower than in the past two years, and neither of the two top girls could match their previous record times.

The fastest girls’ race of the day was predictably the U17 “middles” where Kuipers coasted in comfortably with a  time of 17: 35.74, compared to her 2016 U15 record time of 17:04.6.   De Chassart followed by winning the girls Open race with a comfortable lead in 17:56.09, a minute slower than her previous 2015 U17 record of 16:56.

Below are the times for the top three runners in every race category.   SSN applauds Lomagundi’s sports department for putting on a very organized event with complete results and times for runners available at the conclusion of the meet.
