Bulawayo Province’s Imbizo District held its annual interschools athletics competition at White City Stadium early this week (13-14 February 2017), where Nketa High emerged as winners out of the ten schools present.
Nketa was closely followed by Christian Brothers College who dominated both the boys’ track and field events. As a coeducational school accumulating points for both girls’ and boys’ races, Nketa managed to use this advantage to keep the victory out of reach for CBC who came second,.
All in all it was a stiff competition as all the athletes meant business, pushing each other to the very last second with few points separating schools. After Nketa and CBC, Induna came in third followed by Emganwini in fourth and Maranatha in fifth. Mncumbatha was in sixth, Masiyephambili in seventh and Emsizini in eighth. Eastview and Tennyson rounded off the field in ninth and tenth respectively.
The interschools competitions allow the district to select a team which will compete with select teams from other Bulawayo districts in the interdistrict competitions to be held in the next few weeks to choose the Provincial team.
