Winning away at Peterhouse on Field 11 is known to be a difficult task, but the Bulldogs had no consideration for that tradition yesterday as they registered an easy 31-12 victory against their hosts.
Twenty eight minutes in, Churchill were leading 19-00 but had Akim Dick yellow carded. Playing with a one man advantage, Peterhouse opened their scoring account just before the interval break, bringing the score to 19-7. Earlier in the first period, Hugh Meikle has the chance to get Peterhouse back in the contest via two converted penalties, but he pulled both chance just a bit wide.
Peterhouse came back from the half-time break a more determined side. Although they camped in Churchill’s half for a good ten minutes, theyfailed to convert. Churchill defended their tryline with their lives, managing to keep the Kings at bay. Once Churchill figured out an exit plan from their half, they took the pain to Peterhouse and converted their chances.
Both teams playing strips are sponsored by Trek Petroleum. The biggest difference between the two teams was their fluency. One could easily tell that Churchill had some game time under their belt. Peterhouse struggled to gel together and knocked on the ball at crucial times which kept them on the back foot.
Both teams were missing some crucial players, Churchill to injuries from the Dairibord Schools Rugby festival and Peterhouse to the ongoing History Tour.
